WATAROA DEVIATION
(To tho Editor.) Sir,- The Wataron river made, during the recent floods, serious in-road* jh the main south road. A deviation if the road has become necessary, and i new route has been surveyed. In liy humble opinion the proposed de,notion is much too near the Wataroa river. The road wMI be only ibout nine chains from the river, and knowing the past effect of tho inroads, it is eomvivahlo that the river will soon he in further again and imperil the new road. It was' thought the deviation lately destroyed was remote enough from the river to be secure, but that idea has been exploded, f pen these lines as a settler in tho interests of the public at large who have to foot the bill, and hope before the deviation is undertaken, the route will be inspected by the head authorities, and the position fully weighed before more money is frittered away with a road which, will be always in jeopardy.
