CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES

YOUNG MAX WITH ROLLS-ROYCE GRiK'YYIOUTH, .May 7. A well-dressed' young man, of about 32 years of age, was arrested by Detective A lurch in Grey mouth on Saturday morning, on a charge of obtaining a considerable sum of money by false pretences from a member of a wellknown Hawke’s Bay family.

The accused man was driving a Rolls-Royce motor car of modern design. and was accompanied by a male companion Both men are natives of A? Dirt Country, one of them claiming relationship with a titled family. They had recently been making a tour of the West Coast, aml had just returned from a trip to the Glaciers.

The warrant for the arrest of accused had been issued some considerable time ago, blit it was not until Saturday that the police received information as to his whereabouts.

During the afternoon the accused was brought before Mr K. W Shallcrass, J.P. when he was cliargtd witli obtaining the sum of £3OO from Holer Caroline Lowry, of Hawke's Bay, by falsely representing he had a letter of credit.
