KETCH SEVERELY DAMAGED. INVERCARGILL, -May 4. A serious explosion occurred on the fishing ketch Sneaker while returning to Half Moon Bay. One of the crow went below and lit a stove to make coffee, while another was replenishing the benzine tank. •Mr Coates stated to-day that the tender of Hansford and Mills, of Wei lingtoii, has been accepted for the Massey .Memorial at Point Ilalswell. I lie amount is C9J195, which is within the architect’s estimate. The contract time lor the completion is six months. Considerable progress has already been made in levelling the site ami in removing a portion of the hill which would have obscured a clear view ol the memorial from the harbour. This work iins provided employment for a large number of men. The contract stipulates for the use of Now Zealand white marbles from Kairnru quarries. Tnkaka, in the Nelson district, and also for Coromandel grantee for the base of the circular screen at the northern cud of the memorial. The third anniversary of .Mr Massey’s death takes place next Thursday.
