EXCELSIORS v. STARS. Excelsiors travelled to Greymouth on Saturday and were successful hy 12 points (three tries and a penalty goal) to 7 points (a penally and a potted goal). Tn the first half Stais secured both their scores, Stevens kicking a penalty goal and Nelson potting successfully. Excelsiors scoring a try hy .T. King. In the second half Excelsiors added two trios (I>\ Kelly and J. King) the latter also .kicking a penalty goal.
KIWI V. UNITED. This game was played rn Gass Square under perfect playing conditions, hut proved a very disappointing exhibition. In the first halt Kiwis won the scrums, ami the hacks had the free handling of tiie ball. There were numberless openings to store, Imt they were all fumbled. Whiley being the worst offender, dropping quite a number ol line open-
ings. The hall hardly .cent past halfway except as a result of the mistakes of the hacks, (her half an hour had gone before Stevens ma.de a solo dash and score I and a few minutes later he essayed to heat half the team with a rather selfish effort which proved successful. White converted tiie first try. and Steel made a good attempt- from near the line with the second try, the score being 3 to ft> at half time. Jn the second half the game was much more even, hut the play <ontinued very poor and ragged. From a passing run Whiley took the hall cleanly and scored a nice try, which White converted and later (lie same player kicked a nice penalty goal. His place kicking was easily the best feature of the day. United uutt'cu along their forward play being easily superior. From a loose rush Bell scared, hut the kick was a. poor one. Soon aft -r iho ball wont- to the goal 'line and from a serum under the posts Jamieson secured and potted a neat goal. The play continued up a\d down th? field and when time was called Kiwis were the winners hy Ml points (three tries, two being con; cHed. and a penalty goal) tn 7 poults (a t’-y and a potted goal). These teams played on No 2 ground, and weie evenly matched the null travelling up and down the ground, without cither dale being, able to secure a scoring advantage, and play ended without any score, a d'env resulting which appeared a lair.ivilciion of the play.
At Kokatahi the local team had no difficulty in lieating Arahurn hy a very substantial margin.
At Rimil. Rimu defeated Ross by 11 to 0 after a fairly oven game.
