AUCKL \>,"D, May 2 The annual report of the New /tealand Farmers’ Fertiliser Company states that the net profit earned il.is year is much less than that in Ihe three preceding years—a fact which is entirely due to the keen competition which has been obtained for more that nine months of that period However, there was a marked increase in (lie support with con,sequent lower overhead costs. The profit amounts to -217.025 15s 2d. which, together with the balance from "last ' year, makes available the sum of €30.892 0s sd. Owing to a smaller profit being earned, the directors recommend that the dividend lie reduced to fi per cent, absorbing €15.719 Its. and leaving €15.112 (is 5(1 to hr carried forward.

There were sixteen candidates. Mr AV. B. Martin was returned a Mayor unopposed.
I’OAYKR BOARD CLERK’S THEFT WELLINGTON. May 2.
Theft of amounts totalling €132 5s 2d from the Hiitt Valley Power Board, was admitted by a clerk, l-.il-gur Bulwer, 40, at the Court to-day. The evidence stated that accused was a meter reader. His duties were to read meters and collect the money owing on accounts. Receipts had i-> he given. and a duplicate taken. It was found that large number ol iisumeis were in arrears, hut. many produced then ru-eipts. It, was then found that nc cused had not made duplicates. Ihe accused had made restitution ol 10 Id stating this was the lull amount taken, hut subsequently other deial- (•!• Lions were foil nil. Accused was committed tor “cuIcl.- c. \ GIIM.’;- DEATH. GISBORNE. May 3. Marcia Margate: Carrington, aged M, whilst walking -along a cnuntri road with her mother on I ue-day evening, was run into and knocked down hv a youth. Albert Lamb, on a motor cycle. A COLLEGE INCIDENT. CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. A strong protest lias been made to the “Star" in connection with an inrident av tile Technical College yesterday. when a number of girls were subjected to a search of their clothing by the senior mistress and another teacher. The search took place in a cloak loom, where a girl pupil had discovered that a 91 note was missing. Immediately it was reported, Hie doors of the rooms were, shut and the pupils in it were submitted to a search of their clothing from head to foot. The note was not discovered.

A CHILD’S DEATH. AUCKLAND. May 3. I!ita. the two-year old daughter of U. High. Papaknra. died at Auckland as the result of a scalding on Monday. Rita was being chased by her brother, aged four, when she bumped into a pot which her grandmother was lilting from the fire, and boiling liquid spilled over her face and chest.

Rhodes (sitting member) notified that he would not again he seeking reelect ion for Thames electorate, fie did this with a full sense of his responsibility towards the electors as well as to the party he had been associated with for so long.
