Mr Kim Williams, who as the result of being knocked down by a motor car at Mitchells, some seven months ago, has been a patient for tlie past live months at the Grey River Hospital was on Tuesday evening discharged from the hospital, having partially recovered from the effects of his injuries. Mr Williams, acting on medical advice, will leave next week for Akaroa, where he will remain for a couple of months, in the hope of recovering from the effects of shock. His many friends will wish Mr Williams a complete recovery.

Advice has been received that the accident to Lewis Gardiner, terminated fatally at l’eefton Hospital early this morning. The deceased was injured while riding a motor eyrie on the Bailer road near Beef ton on .Sunday, and was picked up in an unconscious state, and removed to Brel ton Hospital for treat nienf. death ensuing this morning. The deeeased was about 27 years of age and bad been engaged for some time timber stacking along the wharf and Quay for some months. liis parents reside in Hokitika The remains are being brought io Hokitika for interment after an impiest lias been hold. Fletcher Telford. .Medical Officer of Health, when asked if be cared to comment on an incident at Monday night’s meeting of the Christchurch City Council. Dr Telford alt-tended the meeting for the purpose ol placing the facts in regard to the incidence of tuberculosis in cattle before flic council. Alter he had finished his remarks a “breeze’’ took place, in the course of which the Mayor accused Dr Telford of coming to the mooting as a partisan. Dr Tollord then walked out of the Council Chamber. Dr Telford said that lie had merely carried out his duty, and lie would have his “come-back” tit the proper time.
The Hokitika Jazz Club opened itsseason very ■ successfully last evening. There was a good attendance, and with an excellent floor and first class music of seven instruments under Mr C. B. Boss, the proceedings went merrily, dancing being kept up till 1 a.in. The evening was tendered us a benefit to the Hokitika- Beautifying isoeiety, and during an appropriate interval. Mr Evans on behalf ol the Club, thanked the Society lor its kindness, and stated what an encouragement the help given would be to the Society. A reference was made also to Mrs I’reslon. who kindly provided the .-simper free for tile benefit of the funds of the Beautifying Society. an act for which special thanks were tendered. The Jazz Club having bad so successful ail opening, should have a very pleasant season. The evenings will he continued at intervals, and are going to be very much appreciated, the conditions lor pleasant dancing being so very attractive!.
