Tun lion Minister of Kimmec is one of those who is distinctly ant i-babotir. so far .ns the Parliamentary Party is concerned. The fundamental differences between the Reform party ami the Labour-Socialist party were defined by the lion. W. Ilnwnic Stewart, when lie addressed a largely-attended meeting of the Wellington Women's Auxiliary of the New Zealand Political Reform League. .Mr Stewart dealt I reticbantly with the philosophy of the Labour movement, and affirmed that, tlie people of New Zealand would prefer to profit by the experiences of Labour rule in other countries than In pay an extravagant price for a demonstration of its weaknesses and failings here. The Labour party, be said, bad attempted to impose a system that was entirely alien to the history, instincts ami traditions of the people. In effect, it had adopted the policy of Continental Socialism. There were recognised catch, words; such as “wage slavery”' “Gaptilist is a .parasite and robber.’' and so on. Such extravagant language meant nothing. At the Labour C onlii-eiiee. .Mr li. Semple, the President, had used the. old phrase,
“The winning of New Zealand lor the useful people of Xew Zealand.’’ Those words had no meaning at all. If Mr Semple desired to ally himself with all the “useful popple - ’ of Xew Zealand In- would find himself sitting down with bankers ami others, the men lie denounced as financial vnllures.
