PAPER FROM CANADA. The great hulk of the newsprint used in the Dominion comes trout Canada, and the United Kingdom. Roughly twice as much is supplied by Canada as by the Mother Country. The Cnited Kingdom supplies over 89 per cent. the printing paper, against ( anada s quota of approximately 10 per cent. It is of interest to note that over oft
per <ent. >1 the printing machinery imported in 1927 came from the l nited States. This was the only instance in the last live wars, says the Government Statistician, when the value of imports of this class of machinery from the United Stales exceeded those from the United Kingdom. Excluding proprietors. managers, journalists, overseers. accountants, clerk* and distributing stall's, the printing and pu!>lishing industry in New Zealand employed over -187(1 workers, only 1111 being females.
