Patterson was most brilliant, hut slightly erratic in backhand, otherwise Ids'was the best play in the singles for many seasons, being reminiscent el Wimbledon days. He delighted the gallery by Ids thorough mastery of the court ami exceptional accuracy ot his seimi. which was not very -irong. but made I lopinau give of his best.
