WESTLAND SUB-UNION

MONDAY. APRIL 23rd

The meeting of the Wetsland SuhI nion was held on Monday at 8 p.m. Present: —Messrs FI. M. Coulson (President), F. McGregor (Vice-Presi-dent), A. Cutbush, D. R. Dowell, S. Moore, J. Stafford, J. J. Williams,’ 11. D. MeManaway, R. .McDonald, J. J. Breeze, E. W. ITeenan (Secretary). Apologies for absence were re-civ;-! from Messrs J. P. Coulson and. J. Hownt.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward correspondence was read and received. Before proceeding with the business of the evening the President (Mr Goulson) acknowledged his appointment and hoped all members would give him their valued assistance. He also extended his thanks to the retiring President who had done yeoman work for Rugby in Westland. The Vice-President (F. McGregor) also thanked all members for their valued interest in him by electing him Vice-President, also specially to thank the members in electing him a life member and concluded by wishing all

a prosperous year. Tenders for cutting of lines: —-J. Stafford moved the tender of R. Dowell (£2 2s) he accepted for the work. Seconded by R. McDonald and carried.

The following applied for reclassi fieation from senior to junior:—L Hughes, G. White, A. King. R. King A. McDonald. W. Ross, W. Palmer.

D. R. Dowell moved that the applications be forwarded to the West Const Rugby Union and favourably recommended. Seconded by .J. .1. Breeze and carried.

Application for reclassication from senior to junior from J. Schist and .T. 'Webster.

The Chairman moved that; these two applications he forwarded to th< West Coast Rugby Union and he recommended subject to their papers being in order. Seconded by J. -I Breeze and carried. Tuliura Tainui application to bt reclassified from senior to junior.

J. Stafford moved the application be favourably recommended to the West Coast Rugby Union. Seconded hv D. R. Dowell and carried. Mr Williamson waited on the Sub Union in regard to eight stone school competition and asked the Union to give every assistance.

The Union decided to advertise for nominations for eight stone competition. also to write to Ross Club and Ivokatahi Club and ask for their assistance.

The School team nominated third grade, also Arahura third grade.

Junior nominations: Excelsior, Kiwis, Arahura, Ross, Ivokatahi. J. J. Breeze moved nomination of Pirates and Kanieri be held over for one week till proper authority is

The Secretary moved the Junior (•snipe i tem consist of two rounds. Seconded by Mr .1. .1. Breeze and carried. Mr .J. Stafford moved the ThirdGrade C. mpetit ion consist of three rounds. Seconded by Mr R. McDonald and carried.

Excelsior v. .School at 1.33 p.m. Arah-ura a bye. The matter o f referees for matt-lie? lor Saturday was discussed at some length. Mr McDonald moved that a town referee he sent to Ross and lie also be instructed to locate likely referees at Boss to fake charge of games there. Seconded by Mr Stafford and carried.

Mr E. Heennn was appointed referee for Ross.

Mr Heennn moved that 1). R. Dowell Go recommended tor senior match at Hokitika. Seconded hv Mr McMannaway ami carried. -Mr McDonald moved that A. .Sumner he appointed referee for Kiwis v, Arahura. Seconded by Mr Heennn ami carried. SF. 1, FC T lON Of) MMI TTEF.S. Mr Cutbush moved that a sole selector for senior and sole selector for iunior grades he appointed. Seconded by Mr McDonald. Mr Stafford moved an amendment that three selectors be appointed for each grade. Seconded bv Mr Coulson. the amendment being carried by 6—4.

Mr Breeze moved that Messrs S. Moore. R. McDonald and .T. Stafford be appointed junior selectors for the year. Seconded by Mr Dowell and carried.

Mr Breeze also moved that Messrs D. Dowell, H. McMannaway. and McGregor l>e appointed senior selec-

tors. Seconded by Air J. P. Coulson and carried.
