The outward correspondence was road and approved. INWARD CORRKSPONDKNCF. From Department of Internal Affairs sic kiiowledging copy of ha.lame sheet.— Received. From same approving of dates for opcsMun season opening 11th -I line, licenses to be procurable at Kuinara and Hokitika.-- Received. Pram same statin;' the Department would appoint rangers under the Animals Protect ion and (lame Act. while appointments under the Fisheries’ Act would he made by the Marine Department. —Received. From North Canterbury Society offering brown trout eyed ova at 2s (id per 1(10!) f.o.r. Christchurch.— Received. From Southland Society, odering brown ova (sea-run) at 3s Cel, Mossburn.—Received.
From Otago Society, quoting is (kl per 1,000 for rainbow trout eyed ova. Received, and quotations referred to the Hatchery Committee.
From Marine Department stating it was the intention to send quiuuat salmon ova to stock the Hokitika river. Received, and enquiry to be made regarding probable date and quantity, the Hatchery Committee if necessary to make arrangements lor hatching. From Kric .fames, Makaroa. suggesting map bo issued of stalking blocks in South Westland.—Received. The Secretary stated this matter was under consideration, and the matter was left with the Secretary to report after consulting Mr Forhes. From same reporting on stalking trip to Okuru block, where several excellent heads were seen.—Received.
From same, as lion, ranger, reporting alleged broach of the Animals Protection Act.--Received a-'ml copy <>l report to be forwarded to the Police lor such ac tion as may he considered necessary. From ,). Petersen, I lari llari. enquiring in regard to opossum season.—Received, Secretary’s report approved. GHNKRAL. .he matter of advertising the district in the Christmas numbers of New Zealand illustrated newspapers was discussed. It was resolved to ascertain rc-lalive prices in respect to dilierent publications. Messrs Armstrong, Rraddon. and
Lloyd were appointed the Hatchery Committee, and instructed to have the building repaired and put in order for the hatching season. The President referred to the road const ruction at Lake Kanieri, where it was hoped as little destruction as possible would he done to scenic features. As the Commissioner of Crown Lands was acting in the matter, further consideration was deferred. The matter of assisting linnnciully in the construction of Ruatapu-Mahin-apua road was discussed at some length hut finality was not reached, and the matter dropped. The President urged something should be done for the protection of pigeons and ibo matter was discussed in various phases. ... The Council rose at 11.0 p.m.
