FRENCH ELECTIONS. PARIS. April 23. The French elections passed oil very calmly, contrasting with the violence of Saturday, when numerous disturbances took place over a wide area. The modern French polling is largely of a holiday character, affording a universal opportunity for family promenades. The official results will not be available until AA'ednesday. but it is expected that there will be 150 definite elections as the result of Sunday's polling, leaving the main battlefor next Sunday. Nine Parisian seats thus far have returned Poincare candidates. One returned a Socialist. Twenty-eight Paris seats necessitate second ballots. At midnight, twenty-one Poincare candidates have been elected and three Oppositionist. Premier Poincare travelled five hundred miles from Sainpigny and hack, to vote. PARIS, April 23. The latest results confirm the first ballot victory for M. Poincare, though the nuniher of second ballots will he greater than was expected. There are 298 results announced. Of those SS have been elected outright. They are:— Conservatives 3 Republicans 35 Left Centre 22 Radicals ‘ Socialists 21 AIRMAN INJURED. LISBON. April 23. Major Beires, who Hew the South Atlantic last year, was injured in a crash in Spain, while returning from Paris, where ho had arranged for a suitable aeroplane for a long distance flight from India to Australia.
