QUAKES CAUSE PANIC. SOFIA. April 19
Not only the capital, lull ilm whole of the country i.s in a state of panic, due to the enuhquako. There- were indescribable scenes in Sofia when audiences rushed from tin- theatres and cinemas. The whole populace spent the night in the streets. Tin- earthquake which was worst ai I’hillipolis. was accompanied by a fearful storm and torrential rain. The electric light failed, intensifying the fightuing. There were thirty shocks throughout the nigh! and many fires. Dozens ol buildings collapsed. The night’s casualties totalled fifteen killed and 130 injured.
Maltese political crisis MALTA, April 18
The Senate of Malta liave finally rejected the Appropriations Bill. The AsseniMy tiacl sent the Rill hack to the Senate, hut it wus again rejected. Lord Strickland, the Preinter, has announced that the Government will remain in office. The Government is carrying on by means ot the Governors’ emergency warrants.
