Commenting on a statement that American automobiles are being increasingly used in Hritisli colonies. M. .Smith (Chief of the Automotive Division of the Department of Commerce) said the popularity and predominance of American cars in .Australia. Xcw Zealand. South America, and South Africa is due practically to servicabilit.v of the American car. which had developed •from tests of over a q liar tor ol a century when the roads were mainly unfavourable. Hence the cars meet these actual conditions in other parts , of the world.” Officials of the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce pointed out that United States had a tremendous domestic market which permitted mass production and economics which were impossible in countries such as England.
