(By ‘ Arenco.’) A’ery bad weather has Icon experienced here and at AVaiho Gorge for the past week, though Easter Sunday and Monday were both exceptionally line days much to the delight o! the visitors at the Glacier Hotel—who numbered well over 100. Several parties were out on the ice loth days, one party on Monday, consisting of f!5. including both guides Harcourt a,ml Fluty. A few of the party were:—Misses P. and 1). Edwards (Christchurch). Mosdames Landers and Miller (Sydney). Mrs and Aliss Earl (North Canterbury). Messrs J. and .1. Houlahan (Ross). It. X. Clark (Boss), AID-es Cot (am. Newman. Mercer. Carney. M. Houlahan and Airs Alinehan. Miss G. Harknes- returned from the Glacier today.
obituary. The funeral of the late Airs Dorothea Heveldt took place in Hokitika on Friday. Deceased was horn in Ger.many in 1815 and spent over 50 years in New Zealand, being in Hokitika 20 years and several years at Jackson's Bay and South AVestland. Four sows and two stepdaughters are left to mourn her loss. Deceased was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. Heavy rain still continues and the south l oad ha- I con impassable for several days now, several en route to the Glacier being compelled to stay a( wayside inns until the rivers recede. Nine hundred sheen were sent to Canterbury from the AVaiho Gorge and ■several hundreds from other parts of AAestland this season. There are yet s(f) head of cattle to be sent from Wa i ho.
