I iik Westland Racing Club was extremely unfortunate with the weather lor the autumn meeting on ’Thursday. The gales were not propituous in that respect. However, considering the state ot the weather the Club was fortunate in getting through as well as it did. the attendance was by no means meagre, and in the circumstances the investments on the totalisatur were satisfactory rather than otherwise. Some good sport was provided, and the interest ol the public was retained to the end despite the damp nature of the conditions which marked the surroumlnigs.' A postponement in all the circumstances would have been ill-advised. The following day opened more boisterous stiil with indications of strong conditions. The Club was unfortunate in its experiment this year, especially following the stretch of good weeks as regards weather which have prevailed along the Coast. The experience calls to mind memories of earlier days in the fortunes of the Club. However, nowadays, there is very ample accommoda-

tion and shelter for spectators, and a host of cheerful spirits made the best of the adverse < auditions prevailing out in the open. The C lub's excellent appointments were certainly greatly appreciated on Thursday. Apart from the weather everything passed oil' pleasingly. The conduct of the meet - ing was good, and events were run promptly to time, a result in which owners and riders deserve to share in the credit. The Club will make a financial loss, hut otherwise gained in credit, for conducting the meeting so satisfactorily under the adverse weather conditions prevailing.
