AUTUMN MEETING
The Westland Racing Club’s autumn meeting took place yesteidn.c afternoon under most unpleasant conditions. There was heavy rain during the morning but it was decided to hold the fixture. Rain fell nearly all the afternoon, a north-easterly gale also blowing with much force at times. Under the circumstances the'attendance was substantially affected and the gate receipts showed a drop of £6O as against last Easter. The conditions were very unpleasant lor patrons, .but there were good fields and the racing was keenly contested throughout. The course was wet and heavy but was quite safe ior racing, and there were no accidents to mar the gathering'. The totalisator receipts were affected by the heavy rain, the sum of 234-110 being handled by Mr 11. Lynch and his staff, as against £135)3.3 last year aml£ 611-1-iu 15)26. The racing was excellent and the finishes good. the High Weight being a remarkably fine finish. The'Town Baud played a pleasing programme throughout the alternoon. The officials of the Club nail, everything but the weather in apple pie order, amt the races were run oil right on time in every instance, Mr Hatch getting his fields away well together very promptly. Also started.—Tip Tree (8.0). Scrambler (8.8). Motor Smash (8.9), Para (8.1). Solgeie led front King Cheops and Scrambler. Coming down the Hill King Cheops took charge and came on to win by a length, Sea Gay who finished fast being half a length further hack. Time 1.20 1-5. Tote 6316.1. •EASTER. HURDLES, of £IOO, 11 miles. (1) Royal Land (9.3) ... 1 (3) Heisler (10.6) 2 (2) Gay Queen (10.7)) ... 3 Also started.—tSlc Wai (10.3). hiving Master (9.13). Lord Leslie (9.5). Big Push (9.0). Heisler took tho lead from hiving Master and Gay Queen, all fencing cleanly throughout. The second time round at the hack Royal Land put in a strong run that took him to the front and ho won a fine race by two lengths, with Gay Queen a length away third. Time 2.56 2-5. Tote 6509. Also started.—Dillon Chimes (72yds) an(d Anon (72.vds). The favourite held the lead throughout;, and though closely pressed secured a .-victory by half a length from Hariua, with Rota Gay a length further hack. Mime. 2.39 1-7). Tote 63901. From a good start Bronstell led from John Dix and 'Fresco with Steel Bar and Carnot next Coming out of the culling Carnot moved up hut Fresco improved his position and came away in the straight to win by two lengths from Bronstell, and Carnot a length awav third, John Dix being (ouith. Also started.—Carrigallon (8.1*2), Alone (S.ll). Krin-gn-Hrugh (8.10), Ayrburn (’8.1). At the start Sky Guest and Anthonie lost ground with the tapes and Ayrburn led from Erin-go-llragh and Carrigallen. At the corner Sky Guest came through easily to win by two lengths, Ouilllire a length further hack third, ’lime 1.1-1. Tote £-189.1. DOMINION TROT, of £BO, (in harness). 11 miles. (2) Playgirl (scr) 1 (1) 'Bonny Eight (scr) ... 2 (3) Dillon Chimes (8-lyds) 3 Also started.—Mawhora Girl (scr), Proud Pointer (scr). Anon (8-lyds). Beta Nelson (84yds). Bingen Wilkes (OOvds). Plavgirl led from the start with Bonny Eight, Dillon Chimes and Bingen Wilkes nexl. In the run home Playgirl and Bonny ' Eight fought out the finish the former winning l>v a neck with Dillon Chimes seven lengths away. Time 4(5 -1-5. Tote £579. HIGH WEIGHT HANDICAP, of £7O. 7 furlongs. (I) Bank Draft (8.8) ... 1 (7) Corn Rigs (8.10) ... 2 (o) No Response (8.3) ... 3 Also started.—Carnot (9.8), The Harp (9.5). Rapid Bose (8.10), Wharfodale (8.8). Gay Gauntlet (8.4), St. Nicholas (8.1). Clay Gauntlet, Bank Draft and AVlinrfeclnle led tbc field to the entrance to the straight where Rapid Rose, No Response and Bank Draft were leading. Corn Bigs came very fast at the distance and a great finish saw Bank Draft win by half a neck. No Response half a length away, and Rapid Rose a nose behind fourth. Time 1.34 1-5. Tote £582.
RAILWAY HANDICAP, of £7O, 6J- furlongs. (1) Malmsey (8.8) ... ... 1 i(3) Para. (7.10) 2 (2) Hnllownoon (0.5) ... 3 Also started.—-Hopeon (7.12). Malmsey led from the start with Pant next and remained in charge to win easily by two lengths, third three lengths away. Time 1.28 1-5. Tote £691.).
