CHINESE TROUBLE

Unconfirmed reports state the Nationalist forces are falling hack on Nanking before a Northern onslaught, following anti-Nationalist successes in Northern Kiangsu, Province of Nan-; king.- The Government’s troops are recrossing the Yangtszc .southwards, seeking shelter in the walled city of Nanking. Sounds of glmfire ' are reported audible from Pukow, ) a(igtsz.e terminus of the Piikow-Tientsin railway. .ports of heavy lighting between Changtsolin’s and Changkaishek’s armies in the vicinity of Hsuchowfu following the launchment of an offensive by the Northerners are apparently confirmed, though the permanence of the Northern victory is questionable.
