TRAINING FOR DOG RACES
USE OF PUBLIC PARKS. SYDNEY. March 29. Owners of greyhounds that chase the tin hares in Sydney appear to lie getting into bad odour, if they are not already in it, in some of the suburbs, owing to the invasion of public parks for training purposes. uinns of the papers, suburbia, or some sections of it. would be unspeakably happy if these dogs were declared noxious animals under the Act. The letter of one correspondent is worth quoting. “Practically every morning.” lie says, “from daylight until about <.-’0 a.ill. these lean, lank, animals ma\ be seen gyrating and gambolling to the tune of screeching whistles and yells emanating from a motley array o! at-! tendants.” He goes on to speak of rehearsals with live rabbits, which, east adrift in strange surroundings are completely foozled. “If,” he adds, “there must be live rehearsals, why not utilise the various generations of stray cats that disturb people at night.
-el. and always has tho alternative of ‘going aloft’ if hard pressed.” At one of the big courses in Sydney the last few days they have been giving over tho programmes to puppies which had not previously raced. The results, in some cases, have been very funny. Dogs which have gone out as sure things have discomfited their backers by indulging in fights with other dogs in the races, and letting “kmg shots” romp home; othae dogs have turned round and gone the tlier way. One puppy showed itk dislike for the tin hare by attacking it. It looked quite annoyed when it was dragged away from the mechanical ‘bun ny,”
