Armed with a special warrant .t number of Detectives raided the Premier Club in Herbert Street late last evening breaking through three locked doors. They found forty-five men on the premises while dice and cards were scattered about the place. This morning Tlios. Dwyer, aged 50. steward, Francis Patrick Law, 40. taxi proprietor were charged with keeping n common gaming house. They were remanded on bail of £IOO until 17th April. A similar remand was granted in the case of Isaac Cutner, 40. boxing manager, who pleaded not guilty to assisting in the conduct of a gaming house and thirty-six others who pleaded not guilty were remanded oil L‘s hail until ITtli April.
FA TAL MOTOR ACCIDENT. WELLINGTON. April 9. Alfred Harold Lucas, of 15 Muller Road. Blenheim, and C. Cross, ol 70a. Constable Street. Newtown, were admitted to the hospital, shortly after six o’clock to-night suffering from severe injuries received through being knocked down by a taxi-cab in Courtenay Place. Lucas, whose skull was fractured, died at 8 p.m. Ross, who is suffering from severe injuries to the ribs and shoulder is not in a very serious condition. So far as can he ascertained both men were crossing the road during the heavy downpour and walked into the taxi. ’They were taken to the hospital by the free ambulance. THREE ACCIDENTS. TIMARU. April 9. Three accidents occurred here to-day, A big service bus mid a motor-car collided few miles north of Tiinaru.. when the driver of the car, Air Charles Dash, suffered severe cubs to the face and hands, while his wife suffered a fractured thigh and knee, and was taken to the hospital. In another ease a Christchurch resident who was motoring to Lake Tekapo with his wife, family and a friend failed to negotiate a small bridge near Cave township, and the car capsized into a. water-hole. The ear was a sedan. but the occupants, who were locked in. managed to open a floor and reach dry land, very wet hut uninjured. Tn the third case a man attempted to board the express train when it was in motion. He was dragged about AO yards, when the train was stopped and he was released from a perilous posi- . tion. clinging to the undercarriage of a car. He was severely shaken hut otherwise unhurt.
FALL FROM HORSE. AUCKLAND, April 9. Fatal injuries were sustained by Maude Ivy Timpley. aged 15. who fell from a horse while riding on Muriwai Roach on Saturday afternoon. The girl was a daughter of Mr and Airs Timpley. of Kingsland. and was on a visit to her aunt. .Mrs .1. P. Hand. When thrown to the ground the girl suffered a compound fracture of the skull, and was rendered unconscious. The patient, did not regain consciousness and died vesterday afternoon.

Eric Koylo. discharged his gun. Timperlcy’s right eye was seriously injured, and it is feared that he has lost the sight of it. He was taken to Auckland for treatment. DRIVER DRUNK. AUCKLAND, April 9. “This is not a had. ease bv any means,” said Sub-Inspector "McCarthy at tbe Police Court this morning, after John Alexander Fox. aged 29. bad pleaded guilty to a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in charge of n motor ear. Tbe Sub-Inspector added that a constable noticed that a ear driven by Fox in tbe Great North Road on Saturday night bad no lights, and on approaching the ear when it stopped, he found that Fox was under the influence of liquor.
Mr Sullivan, who appeared for Fox said that his client was a working man and he had only purchased the car on Saturday. Possibly he and (he man ho bought it from had a drink to celebrate the affair, said counsel. Mr Sullivan asked that a small lino ho imposed. The Magistrate fMr E. C. Cotton) lined the accused £7 10s and allowed one week in which to pay.
INFANTILE PAR A LYSIS. A SIT "BURTON, April 10. A death from infantile paralysis occurred yesterday, the patient being a fourteen years old girl who lioatne ill on Thursday. This is the first ease in Ashburton for a very long period.
