A sensation was caused in Taihnpc to-day when it bceanu known that the local police had raided premises in Hautapu street used as a billiard saloon and occupied by . J. Ryai and Cyril Murphy. The raid was conducted by Sergeant D, »J. O Neill, assisted by Constables S. King, E. McDonnell, and O'Donoghite. Ryan and Murphy were arrested and charged with using their respective premises as a common gaming house. .1 L. Vickery was also arrested on n charge of assisting ill the management of a common gaming house. Ryan. Murphy, and Vickery appeared before Mr L. Daws, 4.1’., this afternoon, and were remanded unli the 27th inst. Bail was allowed. Ryan and Murphy in a sum of .-£IOO each and Vickery in a sum of £2O.
