i|tiestion of trout versus whitebait, resulted in an unusually large attendance at the annual meeting of the Westland Acclimatisation Society on Thursday night. Some 27 new members joined the Society and paid up their subscriptions for the privilege of voting. Forty-eight votes were recorded and in some instances the voting was very close. The Society is in a very sound position financially, due mainly to the income derived from the royalty on opossum skins. Representatives of all lira itches of lisiiing and game are on the now Committee which lias the opportunity of conducting a very useful year for the district. The question of opening up new routes, particularly in the Styx region is likely to lie a prominent matter, and with other proposals in mind, the work of the Society should prove very useful in the matter of advertising and developing the district. Dr Toichelmnnn lias been elected again President of the Society, while Air .T. J. Alclntosh is Vice-President.
