A RUNNER CHARGED
MELBOURNE, April 5. Walter Charles Preston, a professional runner, was committed for trial on a charge of making a false statement in a statutory decoloration. It was alleged Preston was a professional runner in Now Zealand, where he made fifteen hundred sterling in stake money. He then came to Australia where, under the name of ?’’’ Walter Kimber, he ran at various places and won many races. He afterwards went to Victoria and competed, with success at country meetings. It is stated lie won £2BO sterling in sakes since March, 192". It is alleged that Preston, who pleaded not guilty, made a false declaration to the Victorian Athletic League.
