STUD SHEEP EUR U.S.A. AUCKLAND, April 2. That America is continuing to look to New Zealand for stud sheep calculated to improve its flocks is shown by a consignment of 90 stud Lincoln ram and ewe lambs to bo shipped from Auckland for San Francisco by the Waikawa. The sheep have been purchased by Dalgety and Co. Ltd. on behalf of the National AYoolgrower.s’ Association of California from prominent Wnirarapti breeders, and were brought to Auckland for shipment by the first suitable vessel leaving the Dominion. It is now several years since this part of America made a call on the Dominion’s stud flocks, although South America has been importing from time to time. It is thouglrtflikely that more consignments will go forward to California.

A remnrkoble escape from a fatal injury was experienced by Airs AI. J. Cassidy and her husband, of Auckland, early this afternoon when driving a sedan ear. Mrs Cassidy was descending Tonahoe Hill, going south on the main road near ITawera. when the car failed to negotiate a -harp head, and, crashing through a fence, it somersaulted for 100 feet down a steep bank finally plunging with" a direct drop 3ft feet into the river. Afrs Cassidy, who was imprisoned under the water, was extricated with difficulty and was taken to the hospital suffering from n head injury and shock. Her husband escaped with severe bruises. FAMILY'S ESCAPE. AUCKLAND. April 3. A hurried escape from a verandah on the second storey of a burning building was made at two o’clock this morning by Air and Airs A. Leach and their daughter, of dfil Alamikau lload, Parnell. when the cake shop above which they were sleeping caught fire in the ground floor room, and trapped them upstairs.

Everything in the shop appeared to he in order when the family retired at 2 a.m. the girl was awakened by the sound of breaking glass. It < mild lie seen from the top ol tie* stairs that the seat of the fire was ill the hack room near the foot of the staircase, and heal had broken the glass panels ot the door which separated the room from the hall. Airs Leach collapsed into her husband's arms, and made escape more difficult. The three were landed safely in the street, however, and the alarm brought, tbe Remuera Eire Brigade. Working furiously at the spreading flames, the firemen made u creditable save, and prevented the fire from damaging more than the bar k portion of the shop, and stopped its spread to two other shops in the same block. Tbe stock and materials in the shop were ruined, and as they were covered by a policy of only G2dfl. the loss will be substantial. SUICIDE. CHRISTCHURCH, April 3. The dead body of James Hollo, farmer, of Hawarden, was found on his farm this afternoon. A gun was lying alongside the body. An inquest will be bold to-morrow.
