(Australian Press Association & Sun.) SUGAR EXPERTS QUEST. WASHINGTON, April 2. Three leading sugar experts have planned an aeroplane expedition to New Guinea under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture seeking a sugar daiie hardier than the present American varieties. Doctor Brandes, a member of the Department's sugar plant section, will fly to San Francisco shortly in a ■Faircabin aeroplane where he will meet Dr Jakoh Jesiet, director ol sugar experiments in Java for the Dutch Government. They will be joined at Hawaii by the entomologist, Pemberton. The plane will be shipped to Sydney from San Francisco. U.S. UNEM'PLQYMFINT. WASHINGTON, April 2. Senator Shipstead who represents the Farmer Labour Party train Minnesota, estimates unemployment throughout United States at over eight millions, on the basis ol the Labour Department’s figures which he says show 32.0 decrease in unemployment since 1920. FIGHT POSTPONED. NEW YORK, April 2. A message from Baltimore states Grime’s fight with Buster Brown scheduled for to-night, lias been cancelled, due to Brown’s illness. The fight is now scheduled for April 4, when Sid Lampye will substitute for Brown. . STOCK EXCHANGE. (Received this day at 11 0 a.®- 1 NEW YORK, April 2. The Stock Exchange trading bore a semblance of normal for the first time for weeks and the fren/.v of recent days when leading stocks reached new high levels and the volume of trading broke all records, subsided to a murmur. Ihe total sales for the day after approaching five millions in several sessions last week were barely over three millions.
STOCK EXCHANGE HOLIDAY. NEW YORK, April 2
Governors of the Stock Exchange agreed to suspend trading troiri the afternoon of sth April until the morning of 9th April, making a triple holiday over Easter. Traders had asked for this unusually long suspension, duo to the nervous strain to which members were subjected during the recent boom.
