Ad vice lias been received that Air .). Cut tame with li is late purchase of the steam fishing smack. Aland, was at AVellington on the way to Hokitika. If the weather was favourable it was hoped to arrive at Hokitika on Tuesday. No stone is being left unturned to ensure the success of the All Blacks on their forthcoming South African tour. Even superstition has been consulted to some extent in the arrangements, for the allegedly unlucky 13 has been left out in the numbering of jerseys, so that the number for the twenty-nine players run from I to 12. and from 14 to 30. It is. however, significant, that the team is to commence its tour from Wellington on Friday. April 13th. Again, hy a coincidence, flic English Rugby Union will consider on that date an invitation by the New Zealand Rugby Union to send a team to tour New Zealand and New South Wales in 1930.

"Practical joking” of a rather objectionable character is reported from Cambridge. On Saturday evening a number of motorists had journeyed long distances to attend an entertainment in the town. When they went to their cars to start the homeward journey nine separate owners found that their engines had been interfered with, and upon an inspection it was discovered that in each case the coils had been removed. Mechanics had to he engaged, and it was midnight before some ol them could start for To Miro, nine miles away. The matter was reported to the police. It is recalled that, on a recent occasion, a Manawatu farmer had a large hall of hinder twine in the hack ol his ear. A “wag” in Palmerston North tied one end to a post, and when the farmer got home* he found to his lament that he had paid out his twine in an unbroken trail on the* roadway. A policeman started out from Palmerston North to investigate the mystery of the trail, and followed it round corners and along stretches of level road to the farm-house.
