LIMERICK’S ENGAGEMENTS
-MAY NOT MEET TRI VALVE. Limerick's engagements at the A.J.C. Autumn Meeting include the All-Aged Stakes and Cumberland ►Stakes on the third days (says ‘‘Pilot*’ in the Sydney “Referee”). ft was generally anticipated that he and Trivalve would meet in the last mentioned race, but at present Limerick is more likely to take part in the AllAged Stakes.
I. was of opinion that the Cumberland Stakes was sure to be Limerick’s w.t.a. mission on the third day of the A.J.C. meeting, but from what \ have learnt from that horse's trainer, E. !>. •lones. tbe All-Aged Stakes- is more; likely to be the race chosen lor him.
it all depends upon bow he fares at a mile and a. quarLer at Warwick Karin, and nine furlongs at Rosehill. If he acquits himself satisfactorily in those, the All-Aged Stakes may he given preference to the Cumberland Stakes for two reasons—one that it is a more valuable prise, and the other that, as Limerick's owner has the King's Cup in view, the mile is considered less likely to take the edge off his pace than the longer distance. MAY CAUSE ALTERATION - .
If Gothic should run at Rosehill—lie is not in the Chipping Norton Stakes —and down Limerick, no doubt the Cumberland Stakes will then be chosen for the latter, who has further thickened since he was last in Sydney. His trainer says he cannot see it, but, as Limerick lias been constantly under his eye, it would not strike him the same as anyone v.bo bad not seen the horse for months.
Trivalve will not have a walk-over for the Cumberland Stakes, if Limerick does ,drop out. Pantheon is in tlmt race, and other Sydney entrants include Cottingbam. Winn lot, Joeellyu, Olenariif. and Piastoon. Honan is also engaged, and, if be is a possibility for this, lie is well in the Sydney Cup with 8.0. Circular (CyklonClelie) is a surprise nomination for tliis as well as the Autumn Stakes. G OTHTC'S PR OCR AM ME.
Gothic’s solitary w.f.a. engagement at Randwiek is the All-Aged Stakes. The other day Mr S. Green told rue it was possible Gothic’s only run before the A.J.C. Meeting would In- in t lie Campbelltinvn Handicap at Warwick Farm, and, in fact, the only race in which definiteness is started to bis starting in Sydney was tbe All-Aged Stakes. OWNER OF TIUYALVE. IN NF.W ZEALAND FOR THE FISHING SEASON. AUCKLAND. March “7. Annually for thirty years Air E. E. I). Clarke, horse-owner, of Melbourne, lias visited New Zealand for fishing. The well-known sportsman arrived today on the Minima, and intends to stav in the Dominion for some weeks. Mr Clarke says lie is in no hurry, and will sojourn in Rotorua lor a while with tlio fishing fraternity and will go on to South Canterbury. Mr Clarke is very well known, since he is a familiar .figure with rod, line, and reel on tbe Opibi river. Temuka. whore excellent sport is enjoyed, but he is more widely known as the owner of that great three-year-old, Trivnive, who won the Melbourne Cup, the two "Derbies, and in tbe autumn the y Q Leger, the Governor’s Plate, and the King’s Plate. Me Clarke is confident that Trivalve will win tbe A.J.C. St. Leger at Randwiek next month and says that Limerick will have to be in tip-top form to beat bis horse in the weiglit-for-age events at tbe same meeting. SOUTHLAND RACES. " INVERCARGILL. March 28.
