DUNEDIN THIEVES

DCXKDIX, .March 20. , Three youths, Richard Carter, (George Johnston Duncan, and James Johnstone Youngson, were iaeed with several charges at the Police Court this morning. Carter and Duncan were charged with attempting to ■break and enter the shop of Robert Storer by night on March ]3th. with intent to commit a crime, and with, breaking an entering the shop of A. G. Sheriff by night on March 13th, and stealing 7s. the property of Sheriff. Carter, Duncan and Youngson were charged with attempting to break and enter the shop of George Kitchen by night on December lltb. with intent to commit a crime. Mr C. J. White appeared lor the accused. The accused pleaded guilty to all the charges and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The accused also pleaded guilty to a charge of the theft of goods of the value ol £-1, the property of persons unknown. The accused were convicted on this charge, and ordered to come up for sentence after they had been dealt with by the Supreme Court on the previous charge. Bait was allowed to each on his own recognisance of £2O on condition that he reported daily to the police. One of the three prisoners. Richard Carter, and a girl of twenty years of age were then charged with the theft of three blazers valued at £4 17s Gd. the property of Clias. Wilson and others. Chief Detective Cameron said the youth spoke to the girl in George Street and went to Woodvaugh Gardens with her. They entered a pavilion and look the blazers, which the girl took home. She then became afraid, and burned them, so that her mother would not know. The youth and the girl consumed some whisky ill the pavilion. He thought the girl should be place under supervision. The charge against Carter was adjourned till lie bad been dealt with by the Supreme Court. The girl’s name was suppressed and her case was held over for a report.
