Tho auxiliary ketch Elsie arrived yesterday morning from Alii ford Sound, crossing the bar at 11 o’clock. There was a heavy sea running, but the little vessel struck a smooth and came across in good style. Captain Bald reports having left Hokitika on Monday, March 19th at 8.25 p.m. At 3.15 p.m. was off Open Bay Island, and was oil' Jackson Head at 5.15 p.m.. there being a strong south-west wind and heavy sea throughout most of the day. On Wednesday* 21st. was off Af.ilford Found at 5 a.in. and at 9 a.m. reached tlie anchorage. Unloaded tlie cargo of material for Mr Hart, who has a contract for the erection of a hostel at Milford Sound, and at once sailed again, clearing the entrance at 4.;> p.m. for Okum. Found a very high tide rise at Afilford Sound of about 20 feet. At 1.45 a.m. cm Thursday was off Cascade Point, and duly ar rived off Okurn bar crossing at 10.3;> a.m. Landed cargo and loaded pigs, etc. There was heavy rain and considerable' sea on Friday and was unable to leave until Saturday morning, crossing Okufu bar at noon, and arriving off Hokitika on Sunday morning and crossing inwards at 11 o clock. Had fairly rough weather on Saturday night on the way up. The engines gave every satisfaction ihientghout tlm trip, working very smoothly.
