WOMEN IN COURT. AUCKLAND, March 23. Exhibit A, in a case at the Police, Court to-day was a large coil of hair,’ which one woman alleged had been torn from her head by another woman. The ease, which was tilled with bright dialogue, entertained all but the Magistrate who had to decide it. Anne Louise Hadawn.v, it married woman, alleged that Alary Emma Carter, another married woman, had assaulted her. Airs lladaway conducted her own case, and, in evidence, matched her words with appropriate action. “ See, it was like this,” she began. “My poor little daughter was living | with this woman, and 1 got her home, I for two or three days. This woman I cattle over to mv house anil tried to strike my little daughter, and 1 had to protect her. This woman then punched and knocked me down. Just look at this.” AA’itness opened her handbag and produced a newspaper parcel containing thick strands of hair. “ Look what was taken from my head. Look at it ” she wailed. “ Aiy son is a Scoutmaster." she said. " I’m a respectable woman and I’m in my bed at eight o’clock at j night. I’ve got a groat-aunt aged ninety-nine and nine months. That is the stock 1 come from.” Airs Carter said that she had gone to complainant’s house to inquire about the daughter’s health. AYitn-ss was knocked down, and, not meaning any harm, pulled herself up by Airs Haclawav’s hair. “It’s all false.” screamed Airs Hathaway. " I’m not strong enough‘to hit. but 1 wish I was.;’ The assault charge was dismissed, but the parties were advised to keep apart in iiifre.
