FIRE IN REVELL STREET

STEPHENS BROS’ HAIRDRESSING SALOON. Tim tirebell rang out an ahum of fire this morning at three o’clock, the scene of the outbreak being the hairdressing waloon of Stephens Bros, in Re veil St. opposite' the Club Hotel. The alarm tv as given by Miss Devaney who was awakened by some unusual noise and she saw the fire. She at once gave the alarm and rang the nightwatchman. The Eire Brigade were .smartly on the scene, and though the fire had a good hold of the front shop and flames were belching out into the street in some volume by this time, the water, of which there was a full pressure, at once got the upper hand, and all danger of the fire .-.pleading to the adjoining premises of O'Connell and Caliari was soon averted. The front shop and hairdressing saloon were badly gutted and the stock in the shop and fittings were till practically destroyed. Three-quarters of tin hour had completed their work and were on their homeward way to the station with their gear. Mr Peter Stephens was at Westport attending the races there, while the last to enter the shop was Miss Stephens, about Q o’clock the previous evening. The adjoining premises of Messrs O’Connell and Caliari. furniture makers were undamaged and though only separated by a five foot right of way, it was found unnecessary to remove any of the stock. Tlie insurances on Stephens Bros are £ 1 of) on two billiard tables (damaged by voter). £'so on fittings of hairdressing saloon (practically a total loss) in Smith British Office and on stock in trade, £SOO in fhe Royal Exchange. On building of shop and billiard saloon £l3O in Victoria Office and £320 in National Office.
