On Saturday morning a team t)l Christehureli cricketers journeyed to Ha inner Springs to play a friendly match with a side representing the patients and staff of the Queen Alary Hospital. Owing to rain the match was abandoned, and the players on their way home on Sunday decided on a. scratch game which was played in a paddock near the Hurunui Hotel. During the progress of the game, A. Boon hit a ball on to the roadway. The hall struck the road just as a motor-car was passing. The ball bounced, struck the car and by some extraordinary means was retained on a portion of the car. As soon as they saw wliat had happened the players called out to the motorist, who apparently did not hear them, and as he was travelling at a good speed, lie was soon far down the ‘road carrying the ball with him. When Boon hit the ball the batsmen naturally ran. They ran three, ahd then one of the fieldsmen reminded them that if they continued running, thev would make the total that M’Dougall registered when lie topped the score. fade into insignificance.
