MONDAY, MARCH 19th. The Board met at 8.2 d p.m. Present: .Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, T. M. Duff, It. A. Molls, R. Me harry. \V. Jeffries, and L. H. Morel. From Public Trust Office, Wellington, granting loan of HI.091) at 0 per cent, and sinking fund of Cl2d yearly. Received. The formal resolutions were agreed to, covering the covenant with the Public Trustee on the motion of Messrs Jeffries and Wells. From Local Government Loans Hoard granting permission to raise above loan.—-Received. From Dr Yalintine. Wellington, in reference to hank overdraft and advances.—Received, it was resolved to apply for an advance of Clsoo to the end of June. From same, various circulars for guidance of Board.- Received. It was resolved that the capital expenditure for the coming year he CO2O. From ilospistal Board’s Association in connection with agreement with friendly societies.—Received. From Grey Hospital Hoard notifying result of conference of Boards and Timber Workers’ Union. —Received. Mr Duff, who represented Westland Board, reported on the eonloreiice, it being agreed that each member ol the Timber Workers' Union subscribe Cl yearly to the Hospital Board ol their diioict. the Union Secretary to collect, and being allowed 5 per cent lor the coiled ion. He moved that the Board approve of the decision of the eontcrenoe. Seconded by the C liairman and agreed to. subject to it being made dear that the Union arrange for Ihe payment of the amount of Cl per member forthwith. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Dull' for his services in attending tin From Julia O’Leary, resigning position as nurse at Westland Hospital.— Received and accepted. From Agues Martin, resigning position as assistant laundress.—Received and accepted as from April sth. From Dr Booth, Kumara. applying fur leave of absence.—Received and grunted. From Kaniori Electric Ltd. reporting on necessary repairs to the electric light plant at the hospital at cost of CIO Is.—Received ; to be attended to. From W. T). Nolan. Okuru, asking for cover and pump for band ambulance. — Received: to be supplied. The Secretary reported as the result of the decision of the Magistrate in a recent ease in which the Board was non-suited. Air Jeffries said the position as given by the Magistrate was an astounding one. It was an anomalous position that the Hoard had to get the consent of the Minister to sue; that they had to have a written contract with a patient to give a legal standing. Mr Duff endorsed the remarks of Mr Jeffries. After discussion the Chairman moved that the Hoard to the Minister of Justice anil Minister of Health and the Hospitals Hoards Association on the subject. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and carried. From lion. Secretaries. Hospital Fund Commit ttee, forwarding Cl 1. 1 - s 2d. amounts of collections made.- Received. The Chairman moved that it lumi-ty vote of thanks ho passed to the nurses, ioini secretaries, and Messrs Jeffries and Davidson for their magnifif cmiv effort. Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried. REPORTS. From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on Ist February, there were 21 nudes. 12 females —total 99, in the institution. Admitted during |'ebrtiai,\. 9 made', il females--29. In hospital for over two months—l 9 maies. 5 females—l B.— Received. . , The House Committee per .Mr Da\ uison reported on a number of matters for "attention. Two new probationers had taken up their duties.—Received. Accounts amounting to I*7oo fis lOd were passed for payment. It was resolved that the staff at the hospital he advised that all authority for expenditure should come from the Hoard or the Chairman of the House Committee. The next meeting ol the Hoard was fixed for April -Ith. The Hoard rose at 9.90 p.m.
