BEAUTIES OF SOUTH ISLAND
AMERICAN VISITOR’S IMPRESSIONS. CHRISTCHURCH, March 17. After an extensive tour of both the North and South Islands, Mr T. A\ . Drawn, of Vancouver, who is on a holiday visit to the Dominion, is emphatically of opinion that the bush scenery of the South is the finest that he has yet seen during his travels. “ The AVaitomo Caves are wonderful, and so is the Wanganui river, hut, in my opinion, the scenic attractions of the South—particularly the hush country of the West Coast—are far and away ahead of anything to he seen in the North Island,” he said. “ I have travelled through the South Island, and, frankly, I have been amazed at wlmt I have seen.” Mr Drawn travelled in the South Island with a party of American tourists. Their official tour, lie said, had concluded at Wellington, but they had decided to go south, and all were of opinion that the scenery of the West Coast was much superior to that of the North Island. “ It has been by far the best part of the trip, and I’m glad we did not miss it,” said one member of the party to Mr Drawn. “We had a week to spare in Wellington, so we decided to see as much of the South Island as we could, and I may say that it has been beyond all expectations.” Mr Drawn had nothing to say in regard to the Tourist Department, as his tour had been arranged privately, with the object of seeing as much of the country as possible.
