Resuming with three down for 230, in reply to Wanganui’s first innings score of 83, the Australian cricketers put up a total of 426, and sent AVanganui in for the second strike. The local team made a better showing than on Friday, but were all dismissed for 132, the visitors winning the match by an innings and 213 runs. In the Kirk Cup challenge cricket match, played here yesterday and today, Poverty Ba,y defeated Hawke’s Bay (holders) by an innings and 46 runs, scoring 259 against 83 and 118. An outstanding feature was the last wicket partnership for Poverty Bay, J. Jennings (86) and L. Thomson (74 not out) adding 140, a record for this wicket in local representative games. Tlio visitors batting was poor, except Beck, who top scored both innings with 16 and 52. COACH RE-ENGAGED. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 16. B. B.
