MOTOR BOAT RACING
- AYEDXESDAY. MARCH 28th. A meeting was held in the Harbour Board Office last evening to arrange for a series of speed boat events to be run off on the Hokitika River on Wednesday, 28lh .March, during the afternoon. There were present, Messrs li. •Lynn, \Y. Gooch. M. Houston, I). .1. Evans, C. Hart, CL Maine, M. 'Fitzpatrick, E. Lewis. .1. King, E. Haekell, T. Gilloolv, R. Wild, F. Andrews, W. Farrar, .J. X. Robinson, (L Wood, S. . Brooks, .7. AY. .Morris. A. Lawn. 11. D. AlcArannway, F. Ross. Apologies were received from l)r Buchanan and Messrs ■!. Park, It. AYliiley, and A)’. E. Williams. Afr Robinson was voted to the chair and outlined tbo proposals, and after discussion it was resolved that the race lie a points handicap, four races of three miles each, the boats to ho rehnudicanped after each heat, points tn lie d, 3 and 2 for Ist, 2nd. and 3rd place respectively. Air Robinson explained that a en]) had already been provided which was called the Westland Speed Boat Handicap Challenge Cup, to be competed for only by boats of a minimum speed of lo miles and owned by persons living on the West Coast of the South Island. In order to become the property of the owner the Cup must he won three times in succession and may he challenged for at any time when any four boats including the holder are ready to race. The following officials were appointed : President: Dr Tcichelnmnn. Vice-Presidents: Messrs J. .7. McIntosh and AY. Farrar. Judges: Afessrs D. .T. Evans, A. Lawn, and R. Lynn. Lap Stewards: Afessrs E. Haekell. R. AYild. G. Rainc, F. Ross, Af. Fitzpatrick. Time-keepers: Afessrs ( . D. Halt, 0, Woods, A. Lawn, and R. Wlnley. Starters: Afessrs T. Gilloolv and IT. 1). AfeAfanawav. Handienpper: Afr M. Houston. Messrs Robinson, Aforris and Andrews were apjmintcd an executive to arrange nil details, and a small committee was set up to arrange for trophies for second and third places. Afr S. Brooks undertook to arrange novelty events between races. On the motion of Afr Evans, seconded by Air Lynn, it was resolved to suggest the Hospital Board make a collection ill aid of the hospital funds on the afternoon of the races. A vote of thanks to Messrs Woods and AYild for the use of the room, and to the Chair terminated the meet- j ing.
