In compliance with the recent decision of the State Cabinet, following a dispute with boiler makers at Walsh Island, the dockyard was closed down yesterday and all employees, with tbe exception of fifty, retained for the maintenance of the plant- and slipping of vessels, have been paid off. APPEAL FOR INDUSTRIAL PEACE. BRISBANE, March 17. Following a conference of the heads of the religious bodies, a deputation waited on the Premier, Mr McCormick and presented a statement signed by the heads of the Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational. Baptist and Anglican churches pointing out that churches regarded the question of industrial* pence as of special urgency and deepest interest to all sections of the community, and that any setback to industry no—unemployment, which meant an enormous economic loss to the community, suffering and hardship for workers on whom the loss foil with particular severity. Tt was believed unemployment was largely due to industrial , strife, with the consequent evil effects ( on the prosperity of the country. Therefore they gave whole-hearted support , to the idea that the conference would . take up this all important subject of ( industrial unrest. , MURDER AND SUTCTDE BRISBANE. March 17.
