WESTLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

The Committee met at -1 .JO o clock. PresentMr D. J. Evans (President), Rev. Knowles-Smith (Vice-President), and Messrs R. Lynn, 11. G. Coles, \\ . K. Richards, E. Partridge, J. Conning, and J. W. Morris. An apology was made for the absence of Mr IT. A. Stapleton. The Committee decided to hold the tSonipotitions on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, August IS, 20, and 21, on which dates it would he possible to secure Princess Theatre. It was decided to ask Messrs Bush and Moss, of Grcymonth, to act as judges of the elocutionary and musical sections respectively. The syllabus was agreed to somewhat on the former lines, with an addition for se(tioiis for short plays by juveniles and seniors. It was resolved to ask tlie judges to submit draft proposals lor the programme at early convenience. A fancy dancing section will ho included if local entries in any satisfactory number are forthcoming. The prices for tickets were revised. Season family tickets were reduced from 7s (id to (is and single season tickets from os to -Is. Single tickets for children were fixed at 2s. The tickets will admit to all sessions at the competitions, hut not to the demonstration concert, for which the charges will be 2s and Is, plus a booking fee for circle and front seats. It was decided to open a list for a prize fund and Rev. Knowles-Smith offered a guinea which was received with tminks. It was resolved to hold another committee meeting as soon as tlie judge s choice of test pieces was received, and the Secretary was authorised to arrange for the printing of the hook of words, with a record of the cup and other trophy winners. From the indication given at the meeting it was anticipated there would he a good deal of spirited competition in classes hitherto not greatly patronised impromptu speaking and prepared speeches. The meeting concluded at 5.30 o’clock.
