The Executive Council of the Australian Workers' Union decided to reject the invitation of Mr Bruce to appoint representatives to the proposed industrial peace conference on the ground that the colilerence would be of a purely academic < baraeter, having no connection with actual difficulties and differences between the parties, and would achieve no useful purpose. Union officials are now confident that ilie conference will be abandoned. WA LSI I ISLAND DISPUTE. SYDNEY. March IG. At a compid-airy conlereuee of parties to Walsh I Mil lid dispute convened by the ('oiiilnonwealtb Conciliation Commissioner. proposals were made which it is believed will result in the re-open-ing of the works. The recommendations have been telegraphed to the Federal Executive of the Boilermakers’ Union for consideration.
