CABINET VACANCY
-MR ANDERSON LEAVES FOR ENGLAND. WELLINGTON, March 13. The Minister of Labour (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) will leave New Zealand on a health recruiting trip to England on Saturday, and lie intends to consult medical specialists regarding his illness. Ministerial arrangements as a result of his long absence have not been disclosed, nor has the Prime Minister made a move towards filling the position formerly held by the late Air Bollard, whose duties as Alinister of Internal Affairs have been carried on temporarily by Sir Afnui Pomace. If. is known that tlio Alinister of Labour will need, a long rest, and his health is such that it is regarded highly probable lie will not again take up Atinistcrial responsibility. His departure makes at least one Cabinet appointment urgent, and will give the Prime Minister an opportunity of keeping his party well in hand when lie has at his disposal one, if not two Alinisteri.nl appointments. While Mr Coates lias in his hands the gift of one Ministerial position to a North Island member of the party, and the likely contingency of another portfolio for one of his South Island ■supporters he is not inclined to feel anxious about the difficulties which have arisen within the Government party’s ranks over the licensing • legislation.
