The Emergency Committee ol the Australian Council cf Trades Unions hurriedly conferred with representatives of the Seamen's Union in an endeavour to reach a settlement of the Cape York dispute. The Conference, set far, has failed. The seamen's officials state it is now possible that the dispute will extend to all the sales, involving the waterside workers, carters, and many others. ANGLICAN CHURCH CONSTITUTION SYDNEY, .March 13. The Synod of the Sydney Diocese ol the Church of England is debating tlu* new Constitution of the Church ol England hi Australia to decide the aetepLance or repudiation ol its provisions, and amongst the motions to be submitted are several to grant leave to introduce an ordinance to assent to the Constitution, and to make provision for the promotion ol an Act in Parliament to give legal force and elici t to such constitution ; and that the Standing Orders he suspended so far as they preclude the Synod from resolving itself into a eommittee-of-the-whole and considering anti voting upon the clauses for the proposed new constitution in detail belore the genera, question ol acceptance is dealt uit.i; and that the Synod resolve itsell into •i committee to consider and vote aet ordingly. Amendments to these motions are also being submitted providing, inter alia, that no part of the constitution shall lie alterable,'except with the consent of all the dioceses, and that no change be made in the name ol the Church, except with the consent of all the dioceses. The effect of the amendment, if carried. would he tin* same as to do tout the Bill, as no Diocesan Synod lias power to amend the proposed constitution. AUSTRALIAN CHURCH. SYDNEY. -March 11. Archbishop Wright, addressing the Anglican Church Synod on the matter of the constitution of the Church in Australia, said : “ I think we need bin no great anxiety about the change <> title of our church, which has been adopted by the present constitution ol tin* Church of England in Australia. This title contains in it much that appeals to two classes of churchmen. I> retains the link with the old mother church in England which many rightly value and it also contains an express definition of our own sell-governing powers in Australia.
