A meeting of the North Taranaki Radio Society last night passed a resolution expressing keen dissatisfaction with transmissions and management of the broadcasting stations operated by the Radio Broadcasting Co. of New Zealand, and calling for an early Government investigation ; also expressing the opinion that the time was opportune for the formation of n legally constituted advisory hoard with properly defined powers as suggested by the Secretary of the P. and T. Department in September last. MENTAL ESCAPEE KILLED. TE AWAMUTU, March 13. Edward Hughes, about 50, escaped from Tokanui Mental Hospital in tlio early hours this morning, and later a small hoy found his body lying on the railway line at Temawhai, two miles from the hospital, cut to pieces. It is lielieved he tried to join the north bound main trunk express, which does not stop at Temawhai. After the boy had discovered the mangled remains, the nortn bound limited dashed along and further mangled the body. Identification was ascertained by deceased’s shirt of the institution pattern. The deceased had been an inmate fur several years, and was a mild case, with an occasional abberation when lie made determined efforts to escape. A CHARGE DISMISSED. AUCKLAND, March 13. Hugo Smith, lion tamer, of Mirth’s circus, uas charged at the Police Cnuri with assaulting a boy of nine years by striking him witli a whip. Two wit ncs'Cs asserted the accused deliberately struck the boy, inflicting a cut over the eye. Smith said the boy was right up against the lion’s cage, within a dangerous distance. "Witness attempted to strike the lion on it’s paw and accidentally hit the boy. All- McKean, S.M.. said witnesses for the police differed slightly in their versions. He hardly imagined the man would deliberately strike the boy with the whip. There was a doubt and accused was entitled to the benefit of it. The charge was dismissed. AUDITOR SUED. CHRISTCHURCH, March 13. An unusual case was heard in the Supreme Court to-day bv Justice Adams. Todd Motor Company, following tlietls from it by an accountant, sued Arthur L. Gray for .669-1, alleging that lie was the company’s auditor and was negligent in not discovering the tlietts. I lie statement of claim set out that the company employed Gray to audit its books and accounts and lie continued to do s >■ until April, 1927. On March 31, 1927, the company discovered that monies had been stolen by an accountant, named Aitcheson during the whole ol the time that Gray was the company's auditor, ho was negligent, tailing to exercise ordinary skill and care and to discover the tlietts. I lie defence was a denial of the allegations. A COLLISION. HASTINGS, March 13. As a result of a collision between a Lord motor truck and a bicyeio in Eastbourne Street this morning a girl, Elsie Craigie, aged 15, bad set oral teeth knocked out and received minor injuries. 11cm* condition is not seiious.
