MAX WITH A DOUHLE. LONDON, Jan. 21. A man who was able to prove to the satisfaction of Doncaster magistrates that he has a double, which causes him to he arrested and c harged with offences of which he knows nothing, was discharged there yesterday. The man, Ernest Arthur Watson, aged 3d. a clerk, of Grimsby, was charged with obtaining L'li Ids by presenting a worthless cheque at a Doncaster confectioner’s. Witnesses stated that Watson called at Rarki ■ ■soil’s Restaurant and ordered a wedding cake. The girl who served him identified him at an identification parade at Derby police station, and so did another assistant. Watson, in evidence, said that lie had been charged at f.eicesler with a similar offence and was discharged. The police-inspector there remarked that there was a man answering his description who had cashed cheques in other places. Watson said he was at Grimsby all day on the date of the alleged offence at Doncaster. He called his landlady, who corroborated this. Watson also said that while at Grismhy a detective officer came and told him he had been identified as an absconding cashier from Manchester. He gave full particulars of himself to the police, and the charge was not proceeded with.
