STEWARD’S LIFE THREATENED. GJ.SHORNH, March 10. The liner Argyllshire, lying in the hay, was the stone ot excitement last evening, and hut lor the intervention of thief Steward I’alatier, one of the Lascar crew might have lost his lile. Ralatier heard a noise of seuflling near the stokehold about 9.30 p.m.. and on investigation found a Lascar named Abdoolnabee Sultan, a member of the saloon staff, being seriously assaulted by a big gang of Lascars front the stokehold. It was alleged by the firemen that Ahdoolnabee had assaulted a boy, but Abdoolnabee denies the allegation, and says he was enticed down to tlie stokehold. The officers intervened and took charge of Abdoolnabee for the night and in the morning the police launch went out and brought the man ashore, as the head serang on the ship said that Abdoolnabee’s life was in danger, and be would not take any responsibility. Mainly for Abdoolnabee’s protection, he was taken to the police station, and charged with common assault.
