EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “SLIDE, KELLY, SLIDE” —TO-NIGHT. Thrills—laughs—excitement— drama those; nre the things that make •‘Slide, Kelly, Slide” one of the outstanding pictures of the year. The new Metro-Goldwyn-Mnyer production to he shown at the Princess Theatre to'“Kht is unique. In the first place, the director, Edward Sedgwick, filmed the World Series Baseball Games, took its crucial moments and wove them into a dramatic background for his story. Thousands of yelling lans in grandstands ; the nation's two foremost teams at death grips—this is the eolouilnl atmosphere ol the picture, in this is woven an intimate story of baseball ; the story of a youngster who leal ns to pjay brilliantly, becomes a star, gets “ swelled head ” thereby—and then learns the greatest lesson in lile. It is a thrilling and absorbing story told amid the surge and thunder ol the great sporting game. William Haines, who played the hero of -‘Brown ol Harvard,” was the logical man for Kelly. JI is whimsical humour and illimitable portrayal do much to make the picture what it is, and Sally O’Neill makes a very piquant heroine. Harry Carey is seen in one of the most remarkable roles ol the picture as ;i veteran player. It is a sympathetic role that calls for the most skilful acting; farcy makes it a, living thing. Karl Dane as the lanky "Swede,” has a role that will lie remembered almost ns long as his "Slim” in "The Big Parade.” Eileen Sedgwick and Dane do an inimitable piece of comedy. Dorothy Sebastian, Paul Kelly, Warner Richmond, Guinn Williams, Junior Coughlnn, nil have roles they fill admirnbjy. A topical, further chapters of the serial, and a good comedy will also he shown to-night.
