PROGRESS OF SALVAGE. INVERCARGILL. March (t. Divers on the .stranded whaling ship, C. A. Larsen, which .struck a rock at Paterson’s Inlet on .February 21, have completed temporary patching of the pumping room, enabling the ship to use her own pumping plant. It. is proposed to pump the fore part of tile ship and remove her to Bravo Island to-morrow in safe shelter, where divers can continue operations on the hull. Three more smaller holes were discovered in the lore part. Only the seamen remain with the C. A. Larsen, the rest having been paid oil'. A hundred left for the north to-day. CREW RETURNING HOME. CHRISTCHURCH. March (i. Ninety-eight members of tile crew of the C. A. Larsen passed tlirougn Lyttelton last evening on their way from Stewart Island to Norway. The majority are unable to speak or understand English, hut one seaman told a reporter that they had been paid off and Mere being sent home as
passengers. The ship was still aground at Stewart Island, hut they were hopeful of saving the oil. “ Will the seamen lose their commission ? ” he was asked. " I don’t think so.” he replied. MAY TIE DOCKED AT AUCKLAND. \ AUCKLAND. .March fi. It is possible that the Norwegian | whaler, C. A. Larsen, which struck a submerged rock and sank ill Paterson Inlet. Stewart Island, will he brought to Auckland lor repairs, according to inquiries being made frum the Auckland Harbour Board. The hoard lias asked for plans giving tlie exact dimensions of the whaler, and the. matter will he further considered when these details are available.
