SYDNEY'S GRIM RECORD. SYDNEY. !•'<• b. -2:i. The people of Sydney know that street accidents within the metropolitan area were frequent enough, but until the records for last year were published it is safe to say that: they did not realise the awful toll on human life. The figures show that for the- twelve months there were 13,061 accidents reported to the police, and 206 persons were killed and GG-I-I injured. Remarkably enough, most of the accidents occurred to people between till" ages of I I years and 60 years; ages that should bespeak discretion and caution. The following table shows the causes of these accidents and their toll: Vehicles. Killed. Injured. Tram 17 339 Motor Inis 8 19-7 .Motor-van. lorry, etc 86 (>7o Taxi-cab 7 282 .Motor-car To opt)!) Motor-cycle 81 880 Bicycle 7 247 Morse-drawn 6 lot I lorses 1 27 Improper riding upon or getting on or off vehicles while in motion If) 434 In addition to these accidents. 16-13 ■ motor accidents which occurred outside the metropolitan area resulted in the death of 112 persons and injury to 1117 others.
