(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) FISHING LAUNCH RECOVERED. WHANGAREI, March 2. Tlie forty foot fishing launch, Ika, which was abandoned when the three members of the crew were picked up by R.M.S. Niagara while sailing from Auckland to Sydney, has been recovered. Captain AV. R. Patterson, acting under instructions from Auckland, began a search in his launch, Rakauui, on Thursday evening, and at noon ho discovered the launch adrift off the Poor Knight’s Island. The launch was dragging a grappling iron at the end til fully 300 fathoms of line which took over an hour to raise on the Rakanui’s capstan. The little vessel was in good condition and is now lying at AA’hungarei wharf. Several blocks of ice and a number of lish were aboard the launch. Evidence of the haste in which it was abandoned was given by the presence on a hatch of a handbag containing clean clothing. UN IDENTI FI ED SKELETON. GISBORNE, March 3. The skeleton washed up on AA’aikane Beach has not been identified as that of the seaman Roff, off the Elsie Alary, drowned two months ago. A doctor was of opinion that the skeleton had been in the water for over six months and was of a mail considerably taller than Roff. DEATH OF HON. MARK COHEN. AUCKLAND, March 3. The death took place to-day of the Hon. Mark Cohen, M.L.C.. of Dunedin, at the residence of his daughter. The deceased had been in failing health for some time. His funeral will take place at Dunedin. CYCLISTS’ FINE PERFORMANCE. AfASTERTON. March 3. At AA’airarapa Rub-Centre Athletic Championships on Saturday, undei ideal conditions, . Ktanden won the half-mile championship in 1.(5 3-d; the mile championship in 2.28 4-u, and the three miles championship in 7.31 1-d; T. Oakle.v being second in each event. Oakley, however, substantiated his claim as the best unpaced grass track rider, in winning the two miles invitation pursuit race from Standen by a margin of 100 yards. Oakley’s time was 4.3 d 2-d, and StaiTdcn’s 4.41 I-d. Cane and Searfe, both ol AAYllingtnn, wore the other competitors in the pursuit event. OH A.AI IRONSIIIP SCULLS. AVANGANIT. March 3. The N.Z. Championship Regatta was held here fine weather yesterday. .Jackson (Union. AA’anganni) won the single sculls. Stevenson not delending the title, daeksnn has had only two years’ experience of rowing. Union won the t hnmpionship pairs from AVairau (Blenheim).
