Slnx'iv lias been caused to Gisborne produce firms by an unexpected increase of fourteen pence per sack on maize, shipped between Gisborne and Auckland, former price l()d. having been advanced to two shillings pet sack. The increase in the cause of great dissatisfaction, as local merchants who have taken orders for February, .March April, forward on delivery at tenpence freight rate. DRIVER CRITICISED. WELLINGTON, .March 1. “This man is not fit to drive a car,” said Mr Salmon, S.M.. when fining George Gillie, of Petone, L'2o. and prohibiting him from driving until .March ,'i 1. 1030. on a charge of driving a motor car m a dangerous manner. A constable stated that two children had boon struck by the car and injured slightly. Witness considered Gillie was drunk at the time of the accident, but lie sobered up before reaching the station. .Defendant stated that be had only had one drink.
