GUTTERIDGE MURDER

LONDON, Fell. 28 At the resumption of the KciinedyBrowne case, cabled on 20th Feb., Mr O'Connor, counsel for Browne, drew attention to tlie widespread publicity given Kennedy’s alleged statement implicating Browne. The Magistrate replied—“lf tlie statement is the only evidence against Browne, f will not commit him for trial. The statement is not evidence against Browne.” Evidence was largely confined to witnesses detailing the movements of the ear in the neighbourhood of the murder. Browne read a motor journal and appeared disinterested. Kennedy’s eyes were, fixed on the ceiling. Inspector Barker described the discovery of a dirty grey mask and .fancy dress at Browne’s bouse, also a ear license of which Browne said—“ That is a dud license in case I was stoplied.” Cross examined Barker said a few hours after bis arrrest. Browne denied any connection with the murder. At the Police station, Kennedy said lie had not a grouse against the police, but Matliieson should he in heaven. The case was adjourned.
